They Didn't Ask for That!
Why These Stories Matter
Over time, I have heard many stories that disturb and disrupt my soul peace. Like many of you, I hope for a world where kindness and respect are paramount behaviors. Very sadly, too many people have experienced the opposite. Possibly, it's you or someone close to you.
"I was thrown to the floor and kicked in the ribs. That was just the beginning."
"I moved to be with my new love. I was tricked and forced into sex slavery."
"I lost all sense of self. He told me that I was 'stupid,' 'too sensitive,' 'I didn't say that to you.' Over and over, I heard this and more. I couldn't trust my sense of reality anymore."
"I waited for him in bed, he had satisfied himself and left me unfulfilled and alone, again and again."
"My body was violated 8-10 times a day. Awful people. The disgust and shame I felt nearly killed me."
"I was told I had to stay married. My wedding vows had become words that caged me in a life of pain and isolation."
"I thought God didn't care about me, but just that I would stay married no matter what."
So many stories could be told.
How We Can Help
Together, we can provide monetary resources that support people as they emerge from very dark life experiences. As they grasp for freedom, even sanity, we can offer a hand up.
Just as a butterfly struggles to leave the chrysalis, people must dislodge themselves from abuse and trauma and learn to fly freely. We can support the frontline workers who are there to welcome and embrace them on their path to transformation.
Warmly, Cheryl
